Finding a way forward
After severe school-based anxiety, sensory difficulties and social isolation, Sam* rebuilt trust, returned to learning and is now attending regularly, building friendships and feeling hopeful about the future.
From anxiety to confidence
In Amelia’s* earlier school years, learning never quite felt accessible. Difficulties with language and learning meant that lessons were hard to follow, and over time this took a toll on her confidence. As self-esteem dropped, school became a source of anxiety rather than curiosity. She began to feel overwhelmed and increasingly reluctant to attend, often arriving in distress.
What she needed was not more pressure, but a place where she could feel safe enough to try again.
Learning shaped around her
In a setting where learning is adapted to her needs, she has begun to thrive. With integrated Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy and carefully targeted support in literacy and numeracy, she now feels settled and secure in school. Her mother shares that she feels safe, while staff see a young person who is motivated, engaged and increasingly resilient.
She is confident in asking for help, enjoys coming to school, and her attendance reflects this renewed sense of belonging. Steady, consistent progress in reading, writing and mathematics has helped her develop a far more positive relationship with learning.
As confidence has grown, so has her willingness to explore her interests and strengths, particularly in Performing Arts and other creative subjects, where she is beginning to shine.
